The 2010 Stand Down at Red Men's Lodge saw over 300 veterans and their families attend the event with just over 40 veterans being homeless or at risk of being homeless. Many of those who did attend sought out services, benefit enrollment and in many cases medical and PTSD counseling. This event touched hundreds of lives and saved at least one as one of the homeless veterans who came into the Forbes Hall program the day after the event suffered a major coronary attack!
This event has the potential to grow into a signature event for the Eastern Shore of Maryland which will help thousands of our rural veteran community. We are working to grow and promote this event all over the region as a must be there event if you are a veteran. Next year we will pursue the message of serving our homeless or at risk veterans and families with a stronger tone or emphasis this now that the event is established. With the success that we saw for the 2nd Annual Mason Dixon Stand Down I believe we have an amazing opportunity to take next year’s event to a whole new level. We have been approached by both TV stations and the owner of 8 radio stations to help us promote this event as plans are already being formulated for next year.
