The Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) held a conference call with local jurisdictions and the National Weather Service to discuss the possible impact of hurricane Irene to the region.
Forecast Update
The following forecast regarding Hurricane Irene’s impact to the local area is based upon the current track of the storm. Six to twelve inches of rain is expected starting late Saturday running through Sunday afternoon. Tropical force winds with sustained speeds of 50 MPH and gusts to approximately 75 MPH are expected to arrive in the area late Saturday and continue through Sunday afternoon. A storm surge of 2 to 5 feet associated with the storm is expected. It is important to note that changes in the track of the storm will have an affect on future forecasts.
Wicomico County Dept. of Emergency Services Is continuing to monitor the situation in conjunction with representatives of surrounding counties, local government representatives and first responders, and the National Weather Service, and MEMA. Additional Bulletins will be forthcoming.
