The Fruitland Falcons Youth Sports Program has been awarded State–wide recognition from two different State entities. The Maryland Municipal League (MML) has awarded the organization its Volunteer Group Achievement Award for a community of between 3,000-10,000 and the Maryland Recreation and Parks Association (MRPA) has awarded founders Ed Urban and Kerry Nelson their Community Volunteer(s) of the Year Award.
The organization was founded in 2008 as a youth football program with 45 kids but has grown adding Cheerleading and Lacrosse and now serves over 400 boys and girls. In addition through the help of volunteers and sponsors they have built a first class all-purpose (football/lacrosse/soccer) field at the City of Fruitland Park Annex on Brown Street.
On Friday, April 8th the new lacrosse season gets underway with opening day ceremonies starting at 5:15 PM. The MRPA award will be presented on April 14th in Ocean City and MML award will be presented in Ocean City on June 27th.
