The Board of Public Works, at its meeting on September 1, 2010, approved a grant increase of $100,000 in Supplemental Assistance Program funds for the Fruitland Inflow & Infiltration Reduction Sewer project. This grant is written through the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and so far has been successful in cutting the infiltration of groundwater into the sanitary sewer system thus lowering the volume of sewage needing treatment and improving the City's plant capacity.
